Welcome to the S.T.E.A.M webpage at Sunbury Heights.

Students explore a full range of sciences including; physical, chemical, biological and Earth & space sciences. They are involved in team activities and investigations in which they predict, observe and explore the scientific concepts through hands on activities. Technology, Engineering, The Arts and Mathematics are interlinked with Science through S.T.E.A.M activities.

Foundation students recently explored the questions, ‘What do we need to stay alive?', and ‘How do the fives senses work?’ They were involved in many enjoyable hands on activities, including smelling and touching different objects, and identifying the needs different animals have to survive.

Year 1 and 2 students explored and experimented with mixing things. They looked at what chefs, wizards, artists and scientists use; and how they mix things.

Year 3 and 4 investigated ‘What is force and motion. Through hands-on activities students identified the type of forces that can be used to make things move. This included the role friction can have on the distance an object can travel.

Students in Year 5 and 6 explored physical and chemical changes. They conducted a wide range of experiments which included:on  melting, dissolving, burning and fizzing. They also focused on creating ‘fair’ testing and on how variables impact the results obtained. In a different unit of work, students investigated robotics and coding.
